Network Water Compliance
If compliance is important in your supply chain, then you may need to consider the source and volume of water being used when you hire a road sweeper. Our Euro 6 sweepers offer a water recirculation system that not only provides extended sweeping shifts but can also save up to 900 litres of water per day over an 8-hour shift.
Where an additional supply of water is needed to complete the job, UBU Environmental Ltd are fully licenced to draw water off the network using an appropriate standpipe hired from the water authority responsible for the area you are working in. It is a criminal offense to connect to a water network using one of your own standpipes and you could be subject to a fine of £1000.00. It is also an offense to access an FH (Fire Hydrant) to draw water off the network.
UBU will only use approved standpipes and will ensure adherence to the rules associated with the hire of those standpipes which are put in place to prevent contamination and to maintain the safety and wellbeing of operatives, the public and the water network.
Aquam’s Calm Networks Training
All of our UBU drivers complete ‘Aquam’s Calm Networks’ training which has received a Certificate of Accreditation from the Institute of Water. They provide training and assessment of acceptable levels of competence when operating a range of valve technologies found in the water network. Calm Networks training ensures that UBU operators achieve an understanding of the causes and avoidance of transient surge in the network which is a major cause of leaks and bursts in pipe infrastructure.
Key requirements of approved standpipes:
- 25mm diameter
- Water meter
- Back flow prevention device / non-return valve
- To be used on Washout (WO) connection points only
Water networks that UBU regularly operate in and hire approved standpipes from include:
- United Utilities
- Yorkshire Water
- Welsh Water (Dŵr Cymru)
